the inspiration
the mondrian collection
the 2011 collection draws its inspiration from yves saint laurent’s groundbreaking design idea to merge art and fashion via his 1965 masterpiece, "the mondrian day dress". using a knitted fabrication as her canvas, the designer pays tribute to the semblance of piet mondrian's same minimalist order and incorporates other geometric compositions that echo the painter’s clean and contemporary lineage. further acknowledging this historic collaboration, each style is named after yves saint laurent’s most influential muses: catherine deneuve, talitha pol-getty, betty catroux, loulou de la falaise and katoucha niane. |
